Cornelis de Vos was a Flemish painter born in 1585 in Hulst, Netherlands and died in Antwerp, Belgium in 1651. He was known for his portraits, genre scenes and historical paintings. Cornelis de Vos was a member of the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke, where he trained and developed his artistic skills. His style was influenced by the Baroque, with a focus on realism and dramatic lighting. He often painted the elite of Antwerp and landed gentry, frequently depicting them with their pets or in leisure activities. Some of his important works include Portrait of a Woman and her Daughter, Portrait of Willem van Heythuysen, and The Four Elements: Air. Despite being less well-known than his contemporaries such as Peter Paul Rubens, Cornelis de Vos was an important figure in Flemish painting during the Baroque era.
